Avisar Goldman

(about)
A solo exhibition of illustrator Avisar Goldman, presenting portrait work of imagined and observed strangers. Limor planned, curated, and designed the gallery space for the show.

People I Haven't Met was a solo exhibition by the illustrator Avisar Goldman, presenting a series of portraits of people who do not exist - faces invented entirely, of strangers the artist had never seen. The work plays against the conventions of portraiture: instead of capturing someone observed, each piece is a fully constructed face, a likeness with no original.

The exhibition treated invented portraiture as a question about how we read faces. With no real subject behind any of the works, the viewer's attention turns to what we project, what we recognize, and what familiar typologies we reach for when there is no actual person to ground them.

Limor planned, curated, and designed the gallery space for the exhibition - one of the cleanest examples in her practice of the architect-curator's full involvement, from spatial planning through the curatorial sequencing of works on the walls. The show was hosted at Kuli Alma Gallery in Tel Aviv, where Limor had previously curated After the Fire the year before.
