(about)
A site-specific solo exhibition for artist Anat Golan, examining Israeli national identity through her jewelry practice as spatial and political commentary, in response to the social and political crises that escalated following October 7, 2023.

Signs & Wonders is a solo exhibition for contemporary jewelry artist Anat Golan. The site-specific exhibition examines a fractured Israeli identity in response to the social and political crises that escalated following the events of October 7, 2023. Curated as a spatial and political commentary, the exhibition uses jewelry as its central medium - small, intimate objects that carry the weight of national symbols.

National icons and architectural landmarks are deconstructed throughout the exhibition, challenging notions of collective memory and belonging at a moment when both have become particularly contested. The exhibition asks what remains when symbols come apart, and what new meanings might emerge when the familiar is broken open.

Signs & Wonders was first presented at BY5 Gallery in Tel Aviv and was subsequently adapted for Hansen House in Jerusalem. The historic building, with its arches, layered history, and distinctive spatial character, offered a new context in which to encounter the works and the questions they raise. The adaptation extended the exhibition’s site-specific approach, allowing the same body of work to acquire new spatial and cultural resonances in Jerusalem.
